Cultivation of varieties for organic growth is gaining in importance

"In recent years, possible available potato varieties from the conventional cultivation programme were mainly considered for organic cultivation; today, cultivation is geared toward the demands of the organic sector, yet in such a way that the new varieties provide sufficient prospects for the conventional sector. Today, appearance and taste of products have become more important, as well as how the variety keeps under organic cultivation conditions."

This became obvious from the explanation of various nurseries and traders during an excursion within the framework of Organicseeds.nl. The excursion took in the trial fields at the Kollumerwaard experimental farm of SPNA in Munnekezijl, where the nurseries and traders demonstrated their varieties for organic cultivation. They enthusiastically provided information about their varieties.

The trial fields were part of the pilot project that was executed by Buizer Advies, in collaboration with the SPNA.
